Traveling in Jordan – Surprisingly Simple and Stunning
When I arrived in Jordan, I was completely surprised. There was a familiar feeling, yet everything was much cleaner, more organized, and calmer. The bustling streets, the smells, the sounds – it all felt unique, and the country has a remarkable balance between tradition and modernity that captivated me from the very first moment.
During the trip, I especially enjoyed interacting with the local culture. Evenings spent in Bedouin tents, tasting local delicacies, and the small, everyday conversations at the markets all contributed to Jordan being not just a country full of sights, but a living, breathing experience. On every walk and tour, I felt the country was open to visitors and everyone tried to share the beauty of local life.
Moreover, the natural wonders deeply impressed me. Desert sunsets, panoramic views from the mountains, and the peaceful waters of the Dead Sea reminded me of Jordan’s incredible variety and richness. These experiences stay not only in photographs or descriptions but in my heart for a long time, making every day a memorable and valuable part of the journey.
Entry and Visa
Upon arrival, most travelers receive a 30-day tourist visa, which is quick and easy to arrange. If you arrive with the Jordan Pass and stay at least three nights in the country, the visa fee is completely waived. The pass also includes admission to most attractions, including Petra. The Jordan Pass currently costs around 70–80 JOD, depending on the package, and quickly pays off even with a single visit.
Safety
Many worry about the region, but Jordan is stable and safe. Daily life continues calmly, and tourists are welcomed with respect everywhere. Fear is completely unnecessary – here, you can truly focus on enjoying the experiences.
Transportation – Taxi and Bus
Within cities, taxis are the easiest and most convenient way to get around. In Amman, the yellow taxis are official, and services like Uber and Careem also operate, offering transparent fares and comfort. For longer distances, JETT busesare the best option: clean, air-conditioned, and punctual, connecting Petra, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba.
It’s important to know that buses rarely run on Fridays, and many local lines do not operate at all. In such cases, it’s best to plan travel with a taxi or ride-share service to avoid long waits.
SIM Card and Communication
SIM cards are easy to get at the airport or in cities. The most popular providers are Zain, Orange, and Umniah, with prices generally between 5–15 JOD. A few gigabytes of internet are usually enough to get by comfortably. The process is quick, requires a passport, and the card is often set up immediately.
Jordan – Clothing and Weather Tips
Jordan’s weather is very variable: it can be hot during the day and cool in the evening, with significant temperature changes in the desert and mountainous areas. It’s advisable to dress in layers, with light clothing for daytime heat and warmer layers for the evening.
Out of respect for local culture, shorts and sleeveless tops are not recommended in cities and religious sites. This way, you can explore the country comfortably and respectfully.
